BfDI sends Notice of Hearing on Facebook Fanpages to the BPA

The Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI) has sent a notice of hearing to the Federal Press Office (German abbreviation “BPA”) concerning the use of a Facebook fan page.
The BfDI announced that from January 2022, he will have the use of Facebook fanpages examined by the federal authorities. However, discussions with the BPA and Facebook did not result in any solution of the data protection problems. The BPA operates the fan page “Bundesregierung” (“Federal Government”) on the social network Facebook of the US company Meta. The BfDI currently considers a data protection-compliant operation of fanpages to be impossible. This view was last confirmed again by a short expert report from the data protection conference.
