BfDI welcomes Japanese Data Protection Commissioners

Bonn/Berlin, 19 February 2020

On 17 February, the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information met with a delegation from the Japanese data protection authority (PPC) in his Bonn office. During this meeting, the discussions focused on the evaluation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the development of international data transfers.

Japan’s data protection provisions follow the model of the GDPR. The delegation was therefore particularly interested in the BfDI’s experience with regard to the implementation of the GDPR and in future developments that might be expected. The BfDI thanked the delegation for the interest and for the opportunity for discussions between the authorities’ representatives.
